Matthew keeps us all in stitches (or tears) any given moment of the day. Here's a few things from the last couple of days:
I'm feeling sniffy mommy (then demonstrates breathing hard through his nose).
Put your muscles up! (meaning "dukes")
It's not your life Jack, it's MY life!
Mommy, are you Jack's boss? JACK, Mommy's YOUR BOSS!
While jumping rope: "Cinderella dressed in yella went upstairs to kiss a fella".

Living with a 7 year old!

A few nights ago Jack and I were chatting before his bedtime. I asked him what was the most important thing to do before finding a girl to marry....thinking this would be a perfect opportunity to cement some important truths in his little mind. His response:
Find a BEAUTIFUL ring and then ask her "will you marry me".
Awww...he is such a little romantic that whoever gets him better appreciate it or else...

Living with a 2 year old...
If I can say one thing about my little Tyke - he is NEVER lukewarm. Hot or cold you will never wonder where he stands on any given issue. He can be sweet as sugar and melt your heart - he can be loud and obnoxious and make you want to pull your hair out. Yesterday was just "one of those days". I decided to record a couple of things mainly so that when he is older I can read this to him and tell him to re-consider any thoughts on having his own child!
7:15 a.m. - Matt laying in my bed crying and yelling "I want my fish"!!!! (me) "What fish Matthew? I don't know what you are saying. Are you saying F I S H?? (matt) "I WANT MY FISH!" (me) "Where is it?". (matt) In the trunk! I'll spare you the rest of this exchange because we just kept going back and forth since I had NO idea what he was talking about. Fast forward 30 minutes and we get into the truck - (matt) "MY FISH!!!!". Puzzle solved. A friend had given him some happy meal toy and it was a plastic looking robot fish? Ok - fast foward another 30 min. and we are back home. Thoughtful mommy brings in the fish, lays it on the table and says "there's your fish Matt-matt". (matt screaming) "Its NOT A FISH!". Oh I give up!
But that's not all. After we dropped Laila off and were heading down to Jack's school Matthew says "Where's Laila". (me) "She's at school". (matt) "NO she's not!" (me) Ok then where is she Matthew?" (matt) no response. (jack) "Where is she Matt-matt?" (matt screaming) I don't know! Quit talking to me. OH MY GOSH!!!!!". (me) "We don't say that!" (matt) OH my gosh!!!!". (me) "We don't say that Matt. Say oh my goodness". (matt) "OH MY GOODNESS!"
Thankfully he quickly went to a friends house where I'm told he was good. I have my doubts!

Kiepersol Harvest Festival
We took the kids to Kiepersol Estates and let them stomp grapes, make cork crafts, walk a wine trail and generally, just run around outside.

Kolaches - Texas Style
Every time I say how much Jack likes Kolaches to one of our friends/family "up North" I have to then launch into what a Kolache is here in Texas. They are NOT the same south of the Mason-Dixon line that is for sure. To be fair, I like both versions.
"Southern Kolaches" - I'll never forget the first time someone asked me if I wanted a Kolache and then handed me a bun with a hot dog in it! Now, that is understating what they really are because, as my sons well tell you, they are god's gift to breakfast! The buns are actually very soft and light and inside is a goo of cheese and warm lil' doggie. About a year ago I searched and search for a recipe to make my own. FINALLY, after learning all about Czech influence here in TX, I found a recipe that is pretty much dead on: Homemade Sausage Kolaches
